One-Sheet of the Week: WHEELER (1975)

WHEELER (1975) Originally released with a PG rating. Additional footage shot in the late 1970s -- including Linnea Quigley's forced nude dance, no doubt inspired by WHEN YOU COMIN' BACK, RED RYDER -- earned the film an R rating from the MPAA in 1980. The new version was re-titled THE MAMA'S BOY, then THE HURTING, and was finally released theatrically in 1982 as PSYCHO FROM TEXAS.

"QUITE Southern Town" -- my favorite kind! Much better than the not quite Southern ones.

PSYCHO FROM TEXAS is truly amazing, but I would love to see the original WHEELER version. The highlight in either cut has to be Tommy Lamey as redneck kidnapper Slick, who makes Cletus from THE SIMPSONS seem like Tennessee Williams. "I got your aaassss nooooowwwww!"

I've had a brief e-mail conversation with the director's son, who informed me that Feazell was a stuntman (he worked on THE WILD BUNCH and BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID) and a sometime second AD or something like that (he lent a hand on KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS). Now he writes novels.

I love that the poster blatantly gives away the ending of the movie.
